Lagos State Police have apprehended a Chinese national, Joe Gu, following an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at a CCTV shop on Kodesho Street, Ikeja.
The arrest took place at Gu’s residence in Bila Vista, Banana Island, Ikoyi, around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.
According to police sources, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, acted on suspicions from the shop owner, who pointed to Gu as a potential orchestrator of the explosion.
The investigation uncovered a prior business dispute between Gu and the shop owner dating back to 2013, which allegedly ended with Gu threatening to sabotage the owner’s business.
Gu remains in custody as authorities continue to probe his involvement and motives. The Lagos State Police Command has pledged to provide updates as the investigation progresses, emphasizing their commitment to unraveling the cause of the explosion.
