Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of fostering a culture of forgery, labeling it a "moral crisis" following the resignation of Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, on Tuesday.
In a scathing statement, Atiku demanded a transparent investigation into the academic and professional credentials of Tinubu and his entire Federal Executive Council, asserting that deceit has become "state policy" under the current government.
Atiku condemned Nnaji’s resignation as a veiled attempt to "whitewash" a scandal involving alleged falsification of credentials, arguing that the minister should have been "summarily dismissed and prosecuted for deceit" rather than allowed to exit quietly.
He criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) for clearing Nnaji while previously rejecting former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai over unspecified "security concerns," calling the agency’s vetting failure a "national disgrace" that raises questions about other appointees’ qualifications.
Pointing to Tinubu’s own history, Atiku highlighted controversies surrounding the president’s identity, age, and academic records, including the Chicago State University certificate saga and contradictory claims under oath.
"When a man of questionable identity leads a country, deception becomes the standard of governance," he stated, alleging that Tinubu’s "alleged forgery and perjury" has emboldened his cabinet to falsify documents and undermine Nigeria’s moral foundation.
Atiku called for an independent probe starting with Tinubu himself, warning that without such action, Nigeria risks deeper "moral decay, economic ruin, and global embarrassment."
He urged citizens to demand integrity in public life to rescue the nation from what he described as a government of "forgers, impostors, and morally bankrupt individuals masquerading as public servants."
