A Nigerian Army officer and medical doctor, Lt. Samson Haruna, has tragically d!ed after sustaining severe burns when his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, allegedly doused him with petrol and set him on fire during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred on September 22, 2025, at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the altercation escalated during a heated argument, leading to the horrific act.
Lt. Haruna, who served as the Regimental Medical Officer for the 6 Battalion, was immediately stabilized at the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, Mrs. Samson Haruna has been arrested and is currently in custody as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Nigerian Army is yet to release an official statement, but the tragedy has raised concerns about domestic violence and its consequences within military communities.
