Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has disclosed that
the Court of Appeal in 2022 asked that the detained leader of the Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, be released.
Sowore made this revelation on Monday while responding to
questions in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.
He was reacting to the protest carried out on Monday in the
Federal Capital Territory, FCT, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore is the main organiser of the Free Nnamdi Kanu
protest.
“We were attacked by the Nigeria police. So, I haven’t done
anything wrong in this protest and we also ended up in the FCT police command.
“Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother and eleven
others were arrested by the Nigeria police,” he said.
Speaking on court judgments, Sowore said, “The Court of
Appeal in 2022 asked that Nnamdi Kanu be released.
“That judgement ought to have taken effect immediately it
was given but the Nigerian government did not honour it.”
