ADC Slams APC Over Alleged Plan to Woo "Key Figures"

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a statement by APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, who claimed at a stakeholders’ meeting in Jos that “key ADC figures” would defect to the ruling party next week.

The ADC dismissed the move as a desperate attempt by the APC to bolster its dwindling support base amid growing public discontent.

In a statement, the ADC argued that the APC’s pursuit of its members reflects the ruling party’s awareness of its declining popularity, stating that “no amount of defections can save the APC from Nigerians whose lives and livelihoods the party has destroyed.”

The ADC described the APC as “the most hated party in Nigeria,” suggesting that its efforts to attract high-profile defectors, including governors and senators, stem from a realization that it cannot regain public trust.

The ADC further accused the APC of orchestrating a “gang-up” by the ruling elite against ordinary Nigerians, who continue to suffer in poverty while political leaders prioritize self-preservation.

The party challenged Yilwatda to name the “key ADC figures” allegedly set to defect, questioning why the APC, having already courted numerous governors, is now targeting unnamed ADC members.

Drawing parallels to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during its peak, the ADC warned that the APC’s tactics mirror past failed strategies.

“The APC will learn the bitter lesson that real democratic power lies with the people, not a few power merchants,” the statement concluded, emphasizing that Nigerians, not political elites, hold the key to the nation’s future.
