Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula revealed that a missing person case was opened on September 23, 2025, after Combrinck, a resident of Kellysville, Lydenburg, was reported missing.

On September 25, his body was found near De Clerq Street in Lydenburg. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was kidnapped, which led to the arrest of the two suspects,” Magagula stated.

Chukwu and Obi face charges of kidnapping and murder and appeared before the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.

Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting provincial commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the arrests and expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.

“We trust that justice will prevail and that a thorough investigation will be conducted,” Mkhwanazi said, underscoring the police’s commitment to resolving the case.
