Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national
orientation, says President Bola Tinubu’s reforms have ended the salary crises
in 27 states of the federation.
Idris spoke in Abuja on Wednesday when commissioners for
information from the 36 states paid him a courtesy visit.
He said Tinubu’s development agenda is driven by national
interest, not politics, and that projects are being implemented across states
without bias.
“I have not seen where there are things to do and the
president refused to do because the governor of that state is not in the APC,”
he said.
“In everything that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done,
the focus has always been on the ordinary Nigerians.”
The minister said the removal of fuel subsidies has unlocked
new revenue streams for states, enabling them to launch projects that directly
benefit citizens.
“The removal of fuel subsidies has freed up resources that
have enabled all your principals to embark on projects, delivering the
dividends of democracy to your people,” he said.
“I have not seen one governor, whether in our party or any
other party, who has said that we should reverse and go back to the status
quo.”
Idris added that before Tinubu assumed office, 97 percent of
federal revenue went into debt servicing, leaving states struggling to pay
salaries.
He said the president’s policy reforms have restored fiscal
stability and freed up resources for development.
The minister urged state governments to align with the
president’s vision to ensure prosperity reaches all parts of the country.
Idris also announced that his ministry would soon lead
delegations to states in the south-south and north-east to inspect projects and
engage citizens as part of its feedback mechanism.
He encouraged commissioners to consistently use public
information agencies such as the National Orientation Agency, Nigerian
Television Authority, Voice of Nigeria, and the Federal Radio Corporation of
Nigeria to drive sensitisation campaigns.
Usman Tar, Borno commissioner for information and chair of
the commissioners’ forum, said the commissioners are committed to promoting
national unity and values across party lines.
“Seated before you are commissioners from different
political parties from different regions of this country. Therefore, we
represent the broad spectrum of the Nigerian federation,” he said.
“We are not here on a party basis or any narrow interest. We
are here on a national platform to discuss ways and means of promoting our
national interest, values and orientation.”
