President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to kick off the construction of two modern hostels, each accommodating 300 students, at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, as part of a broader push to bolster legal education and infrastructure in the nation's capital.
The presidential directive, conveyed through official channels and confirmed by Wike's office on Tuesday, aims to address longstanding accommodation shortages at the prestigious institution, which trains aspiring lawyers from across Nigeria.
The twin hostels, totaling 600 beds, will provide dedicated housing for bar-part students, easing the strain on off-campus facilities and enhancing the school's capacity to deliver high-quality vocational training.
"This intervention will create a conducive learning environment and support the production of world-class legal professionals," a statement from the FCT Administration noted, underscoring Tinubu's commitment to educational upliftment under his Renewed Hope agenda.
In a complementary move, Tinubu has also instructed the immediate development of a vital road linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat in Jabi District to Nile University, a private institution known for its innovative programs in law, engineering, and health sciences.
The new thoroughfare is expected to alleviate chronic traffic bottlenecks on routes leading to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters and other key federal agencies, improving connectivity and economic activity in the bustling Jabi area.
FCT officials estimate the project will span several kilometers, incorporating modern paving, drainage systems, and pedestrian walkways to ensure durability and safety.
Wike, hailed the directives as a testament to Tinubu's visionary leadership. Speaking to reporters in Abuja, the former Rivers State governor pledged swift action: "These projects will be fast-tracked with the highest standards, reflecting the president's resolve to transform Abuja into a truly world-class capital."
He added that funding has been secured within the FCT's 2025 budget, with groundbreaking ceremonies slated for early October.
