President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to two distinguished Nigerians, Farouk Gumel and Tobi Amusan, for their remarkable achievements on the global stage.
Gumel was recently appointed Chairman of Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited, while Amusan clinched a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Gumel’s appointment as a reflection of his expertise and the high esteem in which Nigerian professionals are held internationally.
As Vice Chairman for Africa at the Tropical General Investment (TGI) Group, Gumel has been a key figure in Nigeria’s efforts to achieve food sufficiency.
“His leadership in this significant role brings immense pride to our nation, and I am confident he will excel and further cement Nigeria’s reputation for excellence in global finance,” Tinubu said.
The President also celebrated Amusan’s stellar performance, describing her as a symbol of resilience and patriotic zeal.
“Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, coupled with hard work and determination, any height is surmountable. Her achievement is a source of national pride,” he stated.
Amusan’s silver medal at the global championship adds to her illustrious career, further solidifying her status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated athletes.
Gumel’s new role, meanwhile, inicates the growing influence of Nigerian professionals in international finance and governance.
President Tinubu wished both individuals continued success in their endeavors, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support.
