Chaos erupted at the planned defection of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), Labour Party’s former governorship candidate in Lagos, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as armed thugs stormed the event venue in Alimosho, attacking ADC members and causing widespread panic.
Reports indicate that the thugs, wielding dangerous weapons, assaulted attendees in the presence of police officers stationed at the venue.
Speaking to journalists, Rhodes-Vivour revealed that security operatives and armed groups had blocked access to the original event location, despite full payment for its use.
He alleged that police informed him the directive to disrupt the event came “from above” and advised him to escalate the issue to the Commissioner of Police.Rhodes-Vivour presented his personal photographer, who sustained injuries and had equipment damaged during the attack, as evidence of the violence.
The incident has raised concerns about political intolerance and the safety of opposition figures in Lagos, with no official statement yet from the police or ADC leadership regarding the disruption.
