Three farmers have been reportedly killed and one other injured by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias in two separate attacks in Larkas and Kodahas, Panyam District of Mangu Local Government of Plateau State.

According to Daily Post, the National President Mwaghavul Development Association, MDA, Da Bulus Dabit, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said that the victims were ambushed and killed on Monday and Tuesday while they were working on their farms.

Dabit who gave the names of the deceased as Gideon Jise, Fidelis Usman and Job Amis, said they were working on their farms when the gunmen suddenly attacked and killed them.

He also disclosed that in the second attack, the gunmen stormed another farm in Jwak village and rustled eight cattle belonging to the villagers.

Dabit explained that on Monday, the gunmen also attacked herders and rustled their cattle between Larkas and Panyam fish farm.

He narrated that the damage would have been much but for the intervention of youths in Panyam community who confronted the rustlers while passing through the town and recovered 16 rustled cattle and handed them over to the security personnel in the area.

Dabit condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric, and accused herders of being responsible for the incident and commended troops of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, for arresting the suspects.

He noted that cattle rustling, an organized crime, is already causing significant damage to government efforts to restore peace in the state.
