A devastating road accident at Ibeju Bus Stop on the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos claimed six lives on Tuesday, September 2, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The collision involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks and a white commercial bus (registration AKD 336 YD).
The victims included two men, three women, and a child. Nine survivors—three men and six women—were rescued by LASTMA personnel, assisted by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
The injured were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Epe, and Hammond Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the FMC morgue.Preliminary findings indicate that excessive speeding and reckless driving caused the crash.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged drivers to avoid speeding, particularly during the busy Ember Months.
