Shettima Heads to Germany for Strategic Talks After Securing UN Commendation at UNGA 80

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left New York after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, heading to Germany for high-level discussions with Deutsche Bank officials to explore partnerships for Nigeria’s developmental projects, according to his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Sunday.

During UNGA 80, Shettima earned praise from UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria’s push for a permanent UN Security Council seat.

He delivered Tinubu’s national statement, advocating for UN reforms, Africa’s control over its $700 billion mineral wealth, and digital inclusion initiatives.

Shettima also pitched Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to global investors and bolstered trade, defense, and migration partnerships with the UK.

Additionally, he engaged the Gates Foundation to expand healthcare and education initiatives, positioning Nigeria as the hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area’s $3.4 trillion market.

Shettima was seen off at John F. Kennedy International Airport by cabinet ministers and Nigerian Mission officials. He will return to Nigeria immediately after his Germany engagements.
