The Kwara police command has arrested a man identified as Adeola Badru for allegedly defrauding a federal political appointment seeker of N300 million.
Adekimi Ojo, Kwara police commissioner, shared details of
the case with journalists in Ilorin this week.
Badru is accused of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and
obtaining money under false pretence.
In 2023, he reportedly approached his victim, Joseph
Olugbenga, claiming to be a seasoned politician with access to top political
figures.
Badru allegedly promised to secure Olugbenga a seat on the
board of the South West Development Commission for a fee of N300 million.
Convinced by his claims, Olugbenga reportedly paid the sum
in tranches.
After receiving the payments, the suspect fled to Ibadan, Oyo state, and blocked all communication channels.
Police operatives later traced him to his hideout, where he
was arrested. During interrogation, Badru confessed to the crime.
The command said he will be charged after investigations are
concluded.
