The Osun State government has launched a program to distribute free educational materials to public schools, aiming to alleviate financial pressures on parents and enhance access to quality education.
AIT reported on X that escalating costs of textbooks, writing materials, uniforms, and other essentials have strained many households.
Parent Orabiyi Adeola shared, “Things are so expensive now. The money that once bought several books can’t anymore. Sometimes, the book list costs more than school fees. As a salary earner, it’s tough to cover even three kids’ education, so we decided against a fourth child.”
Another parent, Eno Yamino, urged, “Free education and providing books for kids is the only solution.”
To tackle these issues, the state government is supplying public school students with teaching and learning resources.
At the program’s launch, Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye announced, “We’re distributing exercise books, notebooks, chalk, markers, core subject textbooks, and over 12,000 sets of furniture, ending the era of pupils bringing chairs from home.”
PTA Chairman Adio Ganiyi praised the initiative, saying, “This effort reflects the government’s commitment to improving education quality.
Providing textbooks, writing materials, sports equipment, and other resources will transform the learning environment, empowering students and supporting teachers.”
