The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has taken swift action to assist flood victims in Kaduna State, rescuing two elderly individuals and supplying critical relief materials to those displaced.
NEMA, in partnership with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), the Red Cross, and Federal and State Fire Services, conducted rescue operations, according to a post on NEMA’s official X account.
An elderly man was saved at Bashama Road, Tudun Wada, and an elderly woman was rescued at Kigo Road, Kaduna North LGA, later reuniting with her family at Kabala Costain.
Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding, displacing hundreds and damaging homes along River Kaduna and its tributaries, including Kigo Road, Bashama Road, Kinkinau, Malali, Ramat Road, and Rafin Guza.
Many displaced residents, especially from Tudun Wada, are now sheltered at a temporary camp at the Arc. Namadi Sambo Skills Acquisition Centre near Tudun Wada Children’s Hospital.
The camp, hosting women, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, children, and persons with disabilities, has received essential supplies from NEMA, including mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets.
Malam Suleiman Mohammed, NEMA Kaduna Operations Head, emphasized the agency’s dedication to working with partners to provide timely humanitarian aid and alleviate the disaster’s impact on affected communities.
