Lagos State Govt warns of Thunderstorms, Possible Flooding Today


Lagos State’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has alerted residents to prepare for thunderstorms and possible flooding across parts of the state on Tuesday, September 9.


The weather forecast indicates partly cloudy skies at night with temperatures between 24°C and 26°C. During the day, cloud cover will gradually increase, leading to scattered clouds by afternoon. 


Thunderstorms and rain are expected in areas such as Badagry, Lagos Island, Mainland, Ojo, Alimosho, Agege, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, and nearby communities.


Wahab, in a post on his X handle, highlighted the risk of drainage system overflows due to the expected weather. 


He urged residents to avoid obstructing drainage systems and report any issues to the relevant authorities.

Daytime: Increasing cloud cover, scattered clouds in the afternoon, with thunderstorms and rain likely in Badagry, Lagos Island, Mainland, Ojo, Alimosho, Agege, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, and surrounding areas. 

Impact: Potential overflow of drainage systems.

Action: Avoid blocking drains and report violations to authorities.
