The Lagos State Government has selected Tarkwa Bay Beach as the host venue for the 2025 World Tourism Day celebration on September 27, unveiling plans to transform the site into a global tourism hotspot.
Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, led a site inspection with stakeholders, emphasizing Lagos’ 183 kilometers of beachfront as a goldmine comparable to Cancun or the Maldives.
The state will invest in infrastructure upgrades, enhanced security, and better ferry access to elevate Tarkwa Bay’s appeal.
A youth empowerment program will train locals as lifeguards, tour guides, and coastal guards to boost employment and safety.
Bolaji Mustapha, President of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), hailed the initiative, predicting Tarkwa Bay could become a premier destination.
Beach Master Tolulope Bradley committed to community-led environmental management and improved services.
Discussions also covered electricity improvements, promoting local cuisine, and specialized security training to ensure a world-class experience.
