Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, the newly enthroned Olubadan of Ibadan, delivered his first public address on Friday, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a trusted friend and brother who holds deep respect for Ibadanland and its people.
The statement came shortly after Governor Seyi Makinde presented him with the staff of office, a ceremonial symbol of his ascension to the revered throne, during a grand coronation ceremony held at the ancient Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In his speech, Oba Ladoja expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support and commitment to the development of Ibadanland, emphasizing their long-standing personal and professional relationship.
He also commended Governor Makinde for his dedication to preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of the Yoruba people, particularly through the seamless organization of the coronation process.
Ladoja highlighted Makinde’s efforts in fostering unity and progress in Oyo State, noting that the governor’s leadership has been instrumental in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The coronation ceremony, attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and thousands of Ibadan indigenes, marked a significant milestone in the city’s history, as Ladoja ascended the throne as the 44th Olubadan.
He succeeds the late Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed away in March 2024.
Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and a prominent high chief, vowed to uphold the values of unity, progress, and cultural preservation during his reign.
