Residents of Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State took to the streets to protest escalating insecurity, sparked by the recent killing of three police officers by unknown gunmen at a community checkpoint.
Egbe, a border town with Kwara State long known for its peace and industriousness, has been shaken by a series of violent incidents.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the attack, stating, “Three of our officers on duty were killed today in Egbe by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.”
In response, Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye deployed a tactical squad to pursue the assailants.
“We are currently on the trail of these men of the underworld, and they will all be arrested,” Aya assured.
The protest reflects growing concerns among Egbe residents over the rising threat to their community’s safety, prompting urgent calls for enhanced security measures.
