The Katsina State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (KTPCACC) has launched investigations into 15 councillors and several Community Development Officers (CDOs) over allegations of extorting over N46 million from the public during the distribution of subsidised fertiliser under the Community Development Programme (CDP), according to a statement released on Friday.
KTPCACC Secretary Jamilu Abdulsalam disclosed that preliminary findings implicate both councillors and CDOs in the scheme. “Some have admitted their involvement and begun refunding the extorted funds, while others remain under investigation,” Abdulsalam said, adding that the commission is employing all lawful means to ensure accountability and recover public funds.
In a separate probe, the commission is investigating alleged financial mismanagement in the Katsina State Department of Banking and Finance, involving N136.1 million.
Abdulsalam confirmed that N31.8 million was verified as legitimately spent, leaving N104.3 million unaccounted for. “We have recovered over N70 million so far and are working to retrieve the remaining balance,” he stated.
Additionally, the KTPCACC is examining four secondary school principals following a report from the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The principals are accused of mismanaging N6.6 million, with one also alleged to have sold school property.
Abdulsalam emphasized the commission’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and protecting public resources.
“We are investigating all allegations with utmost seriousness to uphold integrity in Katsina State,” he said, urging the public to report corruption, financial misconduct, or abuse of office through the commission’s channels.
The KTPCACC’s ongoing efforts reflect its mandate to combat corruption and promote accountability, with further updates expected as investigations progress
