IGP Presents N2.17 Billion to Families of Fallen Police Officers in Welfare Payout

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun presented cheques totaling N2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was attended by the Force Management Team, insurance industry stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

The payouts cover policy years from 2015 to 2025, including long-overdue claims recovered after nearly a decade.

This marks the 11th disbursement under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, with over N24.2 billion disbursed to 9,735 families of fallen officers since he assumed office.

Describing the exercise as a “solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility,” Egbetokun emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to honoring deceased officers by supporting their families.

“Officer welfare, whether for serving, retired, or deceased personnel, remains a cardinal priority,” he stated, adding that the Force is revamping its welfare system to be more transparent, digitized, and efficient for prompt entitlement payments.

The IGP commended the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, thanked insurance companies for fulfilling their obligations, and acknowledged the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support of police welfare initiatives.
