Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has called on the United States to prioritize partnerships with Nigeria, emphasizing the need for stronger investment ties to foster mutual economic growth.
The appeal was made during a high-level roundtable hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 24, 2025.
Speaking alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima and U.S. business executives, Tuggar highlighted Nigeria’s role as a key anchor state in Africa, citing its population, resources, and regional influence.
“The United States should prioritize partnerships with anchor states like Nigeria, a natural destination for business collaborations that can reduce costs, access talent, and integrate informal economies,” he said, according to a statement from his Special Assistant on Media, Alkasim Abdulkadir.
Tuggar emphasized the strategic importance of renewed U.S.–Nigeria cooperation under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to create an enabling environment for investment in sectors such as energy, agriculture, technology, and finance.
He stressed that deepened economic diplomacy would deliver tangible benefits to both nations’ citizens.
The minister’s call aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, with Nigeria positioning itself as a hub for regional growth.
The roundtable discussions, attended by leading U.S. companies, focused on leveraging Nigeria’s market potential to drive sustainable development across Africa.
