The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its crucial role in helping meet the federal government’s 2025 revenue target.
The appreciation was expressed by FIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Zach Adedeji, during a courtesy visit to EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, at the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Adedeji acknowledged the EFCC’s support, stating, “Mr. President praised us for meeting our revenue target, but we didn’t do it alone. We’re here to convey the President’s appreciation to our partners. Your collaboration has been vital in achieving our goal and sustaining Nigeria’s financial stability.”
He further emphasized the need for continued partnership to enhance transparency in expenditure frameworks and promote voluntary taxpayer compliance, noting that the EFCC’s involvement is critical to showcasing how collected revenues are utilized.
Adedeji highlighted the unprecedented revenue inflows to sub-national states, crediting the EFCC’s support.
“On behalf of Mr. President, Nigeria, and the sub-national states, we thank you for helping us achieve this milestone and for your continued support in meeting our goals,” he said.
In response, Olukoyede congratulated FIRS for achieving the revenue target by August, a rare feat in Nigeria’s history.
“Many don’t understand the econometrics involved. Your commitment is commendable, and collaboration is key. When the public sees EFCC and FIRS working together, it signals that it’s no longer business as usual,” he said.
Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to combating tax fraud, citing a recent Court of Appeal ruling that upheld the agency’s authority to investigate such cases.
“Our mandate is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute financial and economic crimes, including tax-related issues. The court’s pronouncement validates this,” he added.
He also noted the long-standing joint task force between the EFCC and FIRS, pledging to strengthen this collaboration.
