FG Partners Stakeholders to Relocate Cattle from Abuja to Grazing Reserves

The Federal Government is collaborating with key stakeholders to expedite the relocation of cattle from Abuja’s city center to designated grazing reserves, according to Dr. Idi Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development.

Speaking at the 2025 Media Retreat in Kaduna on Tuesday, September 16, themed “Driving Livestock Growth through Strategic Communication,” Maiha announced that the ministry will soon launch a national peace campaign to resolve farmer-herder conflicts across Nigeria.

Maiha revealed that the ministry recently held discussions with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to facilitate the relocation of cattle from Abuja to grazing reserves.

“In a few weeks, we will embark on a national peace campaign to foster sustainable peace between farmers, herders, organized groups, and communities,” he stated, emphasizing the need for peace to ensure food security, job creation, and national stability.

The minister called for strong commitment from state governments to achieve lasting peace in rural communities, noting that ongoing conflicts have led to the loss of lives, including members of the armed forces.

“We are working with security agencies to silence the guns. Our vision is a country with truckloads of milk, not armoured personnel carriers. Milking machines should replace machine guns,” Maiha said.

Highlighting the livestock sector’s role as a vital driver of wealth creation, job opportunities, and rural stability, Maiha outlined the ministry’s five-year plan to implement policies, programs, and projects to transform the sector.

The initiatives aim to enhance food security and promote sustainable development across Nigeria.
