The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a ₦1.84 billion allocation to fund the education and rehabilitation of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.
The announcement, made by the Federal Ministry of Education on Thursday, September 4, 2025, underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to securing the future of Nigerian children.
The funding, part of the Chibok Girls Intervention Programme, will cover tuition, accommodation, vocational training, psychosocial care, and other support services through 2027.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to the 108 rescued girls under the care of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
Currently, 68 of these girls are enrolled at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Despite political criticisms from Atiku, the government has consistently approved payments for tuition and associated fees to ensure uninterrupted education for the girls, highlighting a moral and financial commitment to their rehabilitation.
“This represents Nigeria’s pledge to turn a dark chapter in our nation’s history into a story of resilience, dignity, and hope,” the ministry stated, noting that President Tinubu prioritizes education above partisan politics.
The program aims to empower the Chibok girls with academic and vocational skills, fostering their reintegration into society and contributing to the nation’s broader development goals.
