Retired soldiers on Thursday blocked the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja, resuming protests over unpaid benefits, including gratuities, Security Disbarment Allowance, and pension increments.
The group, which set up barriers at the entrance, accused the government of failing to honor payment promises made in August.
Led by figures like retired Sergeant Mama G, the ex-soldiers demanded outstanding entitlements and eligibility for the new minimum wage.
"We gave our lives to serve; now we’re neglected," said retired Corporal Umar Faruq.
Previous protests in 2024 saw partial payments, but unresolved issues prompted the latest action.
Security forces maintained order, and talks with officials were underway. The protesters vowed to continue until their demands are met.
"We are retired professionals who can handle any type of gun... If they fail to pay, we may go to another length which the government will not be happy with," one veteran cautioned.
Efforts by senior officials, including the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties and MPB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, to engage the group were ongoing, but no immediate resolution has been announced.
