Dangote Refinery Slams Marketers’ N1.5 Trillion Subsidy Demand

Dangote Refinery has accused the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) of requesting a N1.505 trillion annual subsidy to align their depot prices with the refinery’s gantry prices.

The refinery claims this subsidy would offset costs such as coastal freight, NIMASA, NPA fees, and pumping expenses, which marketers demand be discounted by N75 per litre.

In a statement, the refinery calculated the subsidy based on Nigeria’s daily consumption of 40 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 15 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), totaling an additional N1.505 trillion annually.

The refinery firmly rejected these demands, stating it will not raise gantry prices or absorb such costs, which it likened to past practices that defrauded the government.

Dangote Refinery also criticized marketers for importing 3,687,828 metric tonnes of fuel between June and September, compared to the refinery’s 3,229,881 metric tonnes of exports, calling it “dumping” harmful to Nigeria’s economy.

The refinery encouraged marketers to lift products directly from its gantry to benefit from its logistics-free initiative.

Reaffirming its commitment to Nigeria’s progress, Dangote Refinery pledged to work with government agencies and patriotic stakeholders while holding institutions accountable when necessary.
