Court Orders Two DNA Tests to Confirm Paternity of Late Mohbad’s Son

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga of the Ikorodu Magistrate Court ordered two DNA tests to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

The ruling followed an application by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, with Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, as the respondent.

The court approved collecting samples from Mohbad’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba for testing in an accredited Nigerian facility and a separate test abroad at Aloba’s expense.

Aloba argued the tests were essential to resolve paternity doubts, citing implications for maintenance and Liam’s welfare.

The application, moved by Augustine Adegbemi (representing Aloba) and unopposed by Kabir Akingbolu (for the respondent), was granted, with both parties or representatives required to be present during sample collection.

The case is adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.Mohbad, aged 26, died on September 12, 2023, after a nurse’s injection at his Lekki home triggered convulsions, following an injury to his right arm. Buried the next day, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy ordered by the Lagos State Government.

The April 2024 autopsy was inconclusive due to organ decomposition. A second autopsy was ordered in June 2024 after the family requested an independent review.
