On Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 9:00 PM, suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly assault on Darajamal, a resettled community in Bama Local Government Area, Borno State, k!lling 63 people, including 58 civilians and five soldiers.
The attackers set fire to numerous houses and vehicles, targeting a school housing recently resettled internally displaced persons (IDPs), a motor park, and nearby residential areas.
A source described the attack as coordinated, with the insurgents opening fire on IDPs, laborers, drivers, and security personnel in densely populated areas.
The victims, displaced by earlier insurgent activities, had been resettled in Darajamal for just two months.
On Saturday, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited Darajamal to offer condolences to the victims’ families and community leaders.
Expressing profound grief, Zulum condemned the attack, stating, “We are here to commiserate with the people of Darajamal over this tragic incident.
This community was resettled months ago, yet they faced this brutal Boko Haram attack. Our visit aims to console them and strengthen their resilience.”Confirming the casualties, Zulum noted, “We have verified 63 deaths, with close to 60 civilians and five soldiers killed.”
Speaking on the strain on military resources, he urged the immediate deployment of recently trained Forest Guards to protect vulnerable communities and forests, complementing the military’s efforts.
“The military’s strength is insufficient to cover all areas. Deploying the trained Forest Guards to these locations is an urgent solution,” he added.
