The Kebbi State Police Command has attributed the Monday attack on the convoy of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in Birnin-Kebbi to violations of INEC campaign regulations by political supporters.
Following an emergency security meeting with state security agency heads, Police Commissioner Bello Sani revealed that investigations are underway, though no arrests have been made.
“We’re probing the attack, and the governor called this meeting to assess security developments,” Sani stated.
The incident, which occurred in the GRA area of Birnin-Kebbi, involved members of political parties.
Sani announced plans to summon party leaders to warn against further breaches of electoral guidelines, aiming to curb escalating violence ahead of the 2027 elections.He urged political actors to show restraint, emphasizing their role in maintaining peace.
Malami, who served as AGF from 2015 to 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari, recently left the APC for the ADC. He was attacked while returning from a condolence visit in the state capital.
