Tragedy struck in Agbonran, Ifelodun Local Council of Kwara State, as armed gunmen k!lled Corporal Salisu Shamaki, a police orderly, and abducted three other officers during a violent attack on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
Shamaki, previously attached to a Chinese miner in the area, was fatally shot, while the Chinese miner escaped unharmed.
The whereabouts of the three abducted policemen remain unknown, deepening fears in the community.
The attack is part of a disturbing wave of violent raids by armed bandits in Ifelodun, where recent weeks have seen killings, abductions, and widespread looting of property.
The escalating insecurity has left residents on edge and disrupted daily life in the region.In response, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ordered the immediate mobilization of the state’s security apparatus to the affected area.
The directive aims to restore calm and apprehend the perpetrators. Additionally, the Nigerian Army’s Sobi Barracks in Ilorin has approved the establishment of a forward operational base in Ifelodun to counter the bandits’ activities and bolster security presence.
Stakeholders, including political leaders, community groups, and cultural organizations, are collaborating with local vigilantes and security agencies to protect residents and restore peace.
These joint efforts focus on enhancing local intelligence and supporting security operations to curb the rising tide of banditry.
The Kwara State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement, but search and rescue operations are reportedly underway to locate the abducted officers.
As the community mourns the loss of Corporal Shamaki, calls for stronger federal intervention grow louder to address the persistent security challenges in Ifelodun and beyond.
