Tension gripped Mabushi, Abuja, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, after an angry mob set fire to three suspected touts, locally known as "agbero," linked to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The mob’s actions followed allegations that the touts caused a fatal accident that killed a man, his wife, and their son.
An eyewitness reported that the incident occurred on Mabushi Bridge when the touts allegedly attempted to extort money from the family’s driver, forcibly grabbing the car’s steering wheel, which led to a deadly crash.
The entire family reportedly died at the scene.A video circulating online showed the three suspects lying on the ground before an unidentified person doused them with petrol and set them ablaze.
The eyewitness condemned the touts’ actions, stating, “This is what AMAC agberos have caused in Abuja.
"They are causing a lot of harm. It’s high time we did something about it. They chased this man, entered his car, and dragged the steering from his hand.
"The man died, his wife died, and his son died. The FCT Minister needs to take action. AMAC agberos must leave Abuja.”
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, which has sparked calls for urgent action to address the activities of touts in the Federal Capital Territory.
