Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce after nearly three decades of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the couple, married since September 1996, share a 17-year-old child.
Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody and primary physical custody, while also seeking spousal support and asking the court to deny Akon any spousal support.
Akon, known for hits like Smack That and Lonely, has often been cryptic about his marital status, referencing multiple “wives” in past interviews.
Tomeka’s filing clarifies her status as his legal spouse. The singer, whose real name is Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, has yet to comment publicly on the divorce.
