Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) in Katsina State has expelled 57 students for engaging in various forms of examination malpractice during the 2024/2025 academic session.
The decision, announced by the university’s management, underscores its commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining high standards of education.
According to a statement from the university, published by Punch Newspapers, the expulsions were approved following a thorough investigation by the Examination Misconduct Committee.
The committee found the students guilty of offenses including cheating, impersonation, and the use of unauthorized materials during examinations.
The statement, signed by the university’s Registrar, did not disclose the specific departments or levels of the affected students but emphasized that the decision aligns with UMYU’s zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct.
“The university remains dedicated to fostering an environment of fairness and excellence. These measures are necessary to protect the integrity of our academic processes and ensure that only deserving students earn our degrees,” the statement read.
This is not the first time UMYU has taken decisive action against exam malpractice.
In previous years, the university has suspended or expelled students for similar offenses, reflecting its ongoing efforts to curb academic dishonesty.
The institution has also invested in stricter invigilation protocols and technology to detect cheating, including the use of CCTV cameras in examination halls.
