World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has withdrawn from the 2025 Diamond League final in Zurich, where she was set to compete as the second-ranked athlete in the discipline with 27 points.
The 28-year-old Nigerian, who holds the meet record of 12.29s set in September 2022, has been replaced by Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton.
The final field now includes Charlton, reigning world champion Danielle Williams and fellow Jamaican Ackera Nugent, Dutch athlete Nadine Visser, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji and Selina von Jackowski, and American trio Tonea Marshall, Grace Stark, and Kendra Harrison.
Amusan, a three-time consecutive Diamond League champion (2021-2023), may be taking a strategic break to prepare for the World Championships in Tokyo next month, following a fifth-place finish (12.82s) in the Lausanne Diamond League, where she stumbled on the first hurdle.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel, the African record holder in the men’s 400m hurdles, is set to compete for the Diamond League title in Zurich.
Fresh off his first professional career win in Lausanne last week with a time of 48.08s, Nathaniel aims to make a mark in the men’s 400m hurdles event.
Joining him is compatriot Udodi Onwuzurike, who will race in the men’s 200m final after making his Diamond League debut in Lausanne.
The inclusion of Nathaniel and Onwuzurike keeps Nigeria’s flag flying high in Zurich as Amusan focuses on her upcoming global challenge.
