Tinubu Unveils Plan for Nigeria’s First National Industrial Manpower Development Policy

President Bola Tinubu announced on Tuesday a groundbreaking initiative to establish Nigeria’s first-ever National Industrial Manpower Development Policy, aimed at aligning the nation’s workforce with the demands of its evolving economy.

The announcement was delivered by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, representing the President, during the inauguration of the National Industrial Manpower Summit (NIMS) 2025 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Highlighting Nigeria’s youthful population, with a median age of approximately 17, President Tinubu described the country’s youth as both a gift and a responsibility.

“We must make our young people not just a demographic statistic but a central component of our policy-making process,” he said. “The world will not pause to wait for us.”

The President emphasized the need to address the mismatch between the skills produced by educational institutions and the needs of industry.

He called for robust public-private sector collaboration to prepare young Nigerians for the modern job market.

“This summit is not just a forum for discussion; it is a call to produce actionable recommendations,” Tinubu stated, assuring attendees that his administration would urgently review and implement viable proposals from the summit.

The proposed policy aims to transform Nigeria’s approach to manpower development, fostering a workforce equipped to drive the nation’s industrial economy forward.
