President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member, as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), succeeding Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure was marred by controversy.
The announcement was made in a State House press release issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
President Tinubu also named Mohammed Musa as the FCC’s new secretary and retained Kayode Oladele, a former lawmaker from Ogun State, as a commissioner.
Oladele, appointed in 2024, previously served as the commission’s acting chairman.
The President renewed the appointments of Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun), and Abdulwasiu Kayode Bawalla (Lagos) for a second term.
In a sweeping move, Tinubu appointed 28 new commissioners to represent various states and the Federal Capital Territory. Notable appointees include Obina Oriaku (Abia), Bema Olvadi Madayi (Adamawa), Obongawan Dora Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Nnoli Nkechi Gloria (Anambra), and Aaron Chukwuemeka (Rivers), among others.
The full list spans all regions, ensuring broad representation in the commission tasked with promoting equitable distribution of opportunities across Nigeria.
The appointments come as part of Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the FCC’s mandate amid ongoing calls for fairness in federal appointments and resource allocation.
Omidiran’s leadership is expected to address lingering concerns from Dankaka’s controversial tenure while advancing the commission’s objectives.
