The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has launched its campaign for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for August 30, 2025, with rallies set to commence shortly.
The campaign flag-off marks a significant step in the party’s preparations to contest for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 23 local government areas.
According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the APC’s campaign launch is underway, with candidates actively engaging voters in various constituencies.
The party aims to mobilize support and present its agenda for grassroots governance, focusing on development, security, and economic empowerment.
Key candidates and party leaders are expected to address supporters at rallies across strategic locations in Rivers State, highlighting their plans to address local challenges.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has affirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible election, despite concerns raised by the APC and other parties regarding the electoral process’s legality and timing.
The APC has previously expressed worries about potential disenfranchisement and violations of a Supreme Court ruling, but RSIEC maintains that the August 30 date is fixed and no court judgment prevents the polls.
The campaign launch comes amid a politically charged atmosphere in Rivers State, with tensions surrounding the local government election process.
Some parties, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), have called for a boycott, citing concerns over the state’s political climate, including the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Meanwhile, groups like the Rivers Peace Initiative have defended RSIEC’s timetable, urging stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and fair election.
As the APC intensifies its campaign efforts, all eyes are on Rivers State to see how the political dynamics will unfold ahead of the August 30 polls.
