The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has expressed confidence in Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to honor his commitment to a single term if elected in 2027.
MBF National President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, praised Obi’s integrity, stating, “We believe Peter Obi is a man of honor who keeps his promises.”
Pogu clarified that his endorsement represents the Middle Belt, not the entire North, and emphasized that the constitution and voters should ultimately decide a president’s tenure.
In Oyo State, the Obidient Movement, Obi’s political base, is gaining traction.
At the Oyo State Obidient Conference in Ibadan, themed “Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible,” Prof. Francis Egbokhare of the University of Ibadan delivered a keynote address.
He described Nigeria as “a giant trampled by dwarfs” due to poor governance and urged the movement to rethink its strategy, warning that winning elections without changing the national mindset would repeat past failures.Dr.
Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, dismissed rumors of Obi defecting from the Labour Party, confirming his candidacy for 2027.
“Obi remains committed to a purposeful single term, focusing on human development, as demonstrated in Anambra State,” Yunusa said, noting that many of Nigeria’s issues could be addressed within a year under Obi’s leadership.
