Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has donated N15 million to support education in Bauchi State, with N10 million allocated to Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and N5 million to Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School.
The donations were made during a visit to the institutions on Friday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Speaking at Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi emphasized the critical role of nurses in Nigeria’s healthcare system. “Nurses are very important to society and to this country.
The number one measure of a nation’s success is health, and you can’t measure health without thinking of the human infrastructure.
The nurse knows the patient, owns the patient, and is everything,” he said.
Obi highlighted his commitment to supporting healthcare education, noting that he has annually supported approximately 70 nursing schools nationwide.
The N10 million donation to Malikiya College will bolster its efforts to train healthcare professionals, while the N5 million for Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School will enhance its Islamic education programs and infrastructure.
The proprietors of the schools, Aminu Danmaliki and Alh Usman Abubakar, expressed gratitude for Obi’s generosity, assuring him that the funds would be used judiciously to improve the institutions.
“This donation will significantly enhance our schools’ ability to serve our students and communities,” Danmaliki said.
The gesture has been warmly received in Bauchi, with local stakeholders praising it as a meaningful step toward addressing educational and healthcare challenges in the region.
