Olubode Ojajuni, a commissioner of police and former spokesperson of the Lagos command, has been elected into the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) African committee.
A statement released Friday by Muyiwa Adejobi, force
spokesperson, said Olajuni secured for Nigeria the fifth seat on the committee
with a tenure of two years.
Adejobi said Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police,
commended Olajuni for his feat and commitment to professionalism in the police.
The INTERPOL Africa committee is charged with the
responsibility of advising the African regional conference in the execution of
its mandate, facilitating its sessions, and identifying strategic crime
priorities.
The election took place during the 27th INTERPOL’s African
regional conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
The regional conference brought together 188 senior police
leaders from 56 countries to “provide a unified and coordinated approach to
tackling the region’s most pressing security challenges”.
In March 2025, Olajuni was promoted to the rank of
commissioner of police. Before his promotion, he was the deputy commissioner of
police, state criminal investigation department, Ogun state.
