Veteran journalist Jimi Disu has voiced the growing frustration of Nigerians grappling with skyrocketing living costs, revealing that his monthly hypertension medication now costs a staggering ₦73,000.
Speaking on his Daily Digest program on Nigeria Info FM, Disu highlighted the economic hardship plaguing the nation, where the rising cost of essentials like medicine is pushing citizens to the brink.
“Nigerians are very angry. Life is tough,” Disu said, sharing his personal struggle with the soaring price of his medication, Amlodipine, a commonly prescribed drug for high blood pressure. “My hypertension drugs alone are ₦73,000 every month. How are ordinary Nigerians surviving this?” His remarks echo a broader sentiment of despair as inflation and currency devaluation continue to erode purchasing power.
Nigeria’s economic crisis has worsened in 2025, with public debt exceeding ₦121 trillion and 96% of 2024 revenue consumed by debt servicing, leaving little for healthcare or social services.
