Nigerian Army Rescues Six Kidnap Victims in Kogi State Operation


Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, alongside other security agencies, successfully rescued six kidnapped victims in a coordinated operation in Obajana, Kogi State, on Thursday, August 14, 2025. 


The early morning raid, guided by credible intelligence, targeted a forest hideout where the victims were held.Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at Headquarters 12 Brigade, Lokoja, confirmed the rescue in a statement. 


The troops overwhelmed the kidnappers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds, leaving behind their captives, ammunition, and other items. 


All six victims—four males and two females—were rescued unharmed.Preliminary investigations revealed that four victims were abducted on August 12 in Asinwe community, Okehi Local Government Area, while the other two were taken on July 28 in Apata community, Lokoja. 


Among the rescued was Mallam Adamu Zage, the Seriki Fulani of Asinwe, kidnapped from his home.


Lieutenant Colonel Francis Nwoffiah, Commanding Officer of 126 Battalion, representing Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of 12 Brigade and Force Commander of Operation Accord III, praised the troops and security agencies for their professionalism. 


He issued a stern warning to kidnappers and bandits in Kogi State and surrounding areas to cease their activities or face severe military action, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eliminating criminal hideouts in the region.


Expressing gratitude, Mallam Zage, speaking on behalf of the rescued victims, thanked God and the security forces for their swift intervention. 


The victims have been handed over to relevant authorities for medical evaluation and further care.
