The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled members who recently switched allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The decision was announced by the party’s Elders Caucus and Chairmen of the 20 local government areas in a statement issued by their spokesperson, Mr. Segun Edwards, on July 31, 2025.
Following a stakeholders’ meeting to review outcomes from the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja the previous week, the party leadership declared that members who openly aligned with the ADC were expelled with immediate effect.
Edwards stated that the elders and local government chairmen condemned these members for “desecrating the principles of the party” by publicly supporting the ADC while still holding PDP membership.
“Rising from the meeting, the party elders and the local government chairmen frowned at the decision of some members who openly aligned themselves with ADC, stating that they have desecrated the principles of the party by their open declaration for ADC, while still being members of the PDP.
"The enlarged Stakeholders Assembly, therefore, moved the motion for the expulsion of all the members, who openly aligned themselves with the coalition, and all the elders voted for their expulsion” the statement said."
