Kano Governor Sets Up Panel to Probe Alleged Sale of NIMAP Abattoir Under Ganduje

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has launched an 11-member investigative panel to examine the alleged sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The abattoir, located in Chalawa Industrial Area, was established under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to generate revenue and create jobs.

At the panel’s inauguration on Wednesday at the Cabinet Office, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Umar Faruq Ibrahim emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “This administration is duty-bound to safeguard state infrastructure illegally sold for selfish gains.”

The panel, chaired by former State Anti-Corruption Agency Chairman Barrister Muhuyi Magagi Rimin-Gado, is tasked with recovering public assets and recommending punitive measures.

The committee’s mandate includes investigating the circumstances of the abattoir’s sale, reviewing related documents and agreements, and assessing compliance with legal processes.

It will also determine the roles of individuals or entities involved, recover lost assets or funds, and propose legal or disciplinary actions.

Additionally, the panel is to verify the legality of the transaction, evaluate valuation processes, and suggest measures to prevent future occurrences, including steps to establish a modern meat processing plant meeting global standards.

Barrister Rimin-Gado, speaking on behalf of the panel, promised a thorough and impartial investigation, vowing to act “without fear or favor.”

The panel includes notable members such as Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Magajin Garin Kano Alhaji Nasiru Inuwa Wada, and others, with Abdulkadir Shehu as secretary.

The committee is expected to deliver its findings within three weeks.
