Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit to October 2.
The IGP had extended the deadline to August 12 to give the
force additional to enhance and refine the application process.
In a statement issued on Monday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the
police spokesperson, said the move will give room for “meticulous scrutiny” of
applications to ensure only eligible persons are granted permits in line with
national security considerations.
Adejobi said the extension will also allow the police to
fine-tune digital and physical verification processes “to maintain the
integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse”.
He reiterated that applications should be made only via
possap.gov.ng and urged Nigerians to report cases of extortion, hidden charges,
or unauthorised processing to the police through the hotline 08147818871.
Adejobi said the IGP commended Nigerians for their
cooperation, noting the measure is aimed at balancing public convenience with
robust security measures.
“This decision follows a significant surge in applications
via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the
directive,” the statement reads.
“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to
allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure
that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line
with national security considerations.”
