Foluke Daramola, the Nigerian actress, has opened up about the personal and financial toll of her public support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
The actress, who was appointed as the media assistant for
the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council in Lagos,
disclosed that her political affiliation led to lost endorsement deals and
marital strain.
In an interview on Behind The Fame TV, Daramola reflected on
the consequences of her activism, stating that the experience has reshaped her
perspective ahead of the 2027 elections.
She said despite not receiving any financial benefits, she
lost two ambassadorial deals worth N25 million and encountered some problems in
her marriage.
“The truth of the matter is, for me, the way I was in 2023
cannot be the way I will be in 2027. It cannot be because… I know what I lost
without collecting a kobo, no matter how much is seen,” she said.
“I lost two ambassadorship deals, one ₦10 million, one ₦15
million, because of the election, because of the Obidient movement. I almost
lost my marriage. But the fundamental thing is that I voted my conscience and
choice.”
In 2022, the actress said being in a different political
party from Kayode Salako, her husband, who was also a Labor Party member, would
not affect their marriage and political interests.
