French Prosecutors Seek Trial for PSG Star Achraf Hakimi Over Alleged 2023 Rape

French prosecutors in Nanterre have called for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Achraf Hakimi to face trial on charges of raping a 24-year-old woman in 2023, a claim the Moroccan international vehemently denies.

The Nanterre prosecutor’s office confirmed to AFP on Friday, August 1, that they have requested the investigating judge refer the rape charge to a criminal court for trial.

“It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

The judge is expected to rule in the coming weeks on whether the case will proceed to trial.Hakimi, 26, a key figure in PSG’s historic Champions League triumph in May 2025, where he scored the opening goal in a 5-0 victory over Inter Milan, was charged in March 2023.

The allegations stem from an incident involving a woman who claimed she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023.

According to a police source cited by AFP at the time, the woman alleged she traveled to Hakimi’s home in a taxi paid for by the player. She told police that Hakimi initiated non-consensual sexual advances, including kissing, before raping her.

She reported managing to break free and contacting a friend who picked her up.Although the woman initially declined to file a formal complaint, prosecutors pursued charges based on her police statement.

Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, called the prosecutors’ push for a trial “incomprehensible and senseless” given the case’s evidence, adding, “If these requisitions were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal.”

Meanwhile, Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer representing the accuser, expressed relief at the development, stating, “My client welcomes this news with immense relief.”

Hakimi, who played a pivotal role in Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, remains a prominent figure in global football. As the legal process unfolds, the case continues to draw significant attention.
