Francisca Ordega Visits Benue IDP Camp, Donates Relief Materials

Super Falcons forward and five-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion, Francisca Ordega, brought hope and relief to the Yelewata Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Makurdi, Benue State, on Tuesday.

The Benue-born football star visited survivors of the devastating Yelewata attacks, donating essential relief materials to support families displaced by the violence.

Ordega, fresh from Nigeria’s triumphant 2024 WAFCON victory in Morocco, was warmly received at the Makurdi International Market, where the displaced families are currently sheltered.

The visit, marked by emotional moments of solidarity, saw Ordega engage with the camp’s residents, offering words of encouragement and resilience.

“I have come to weep with you and rejoice with you that God has spared your lives,” she said, dedicating her recent WAFCON triumph to the survivors.

“We have won the cup in Morocco, and I dedicate it to you.”

The relief materials donated included food items such as rice, beans, guinea corn, and soya beans, as well as non-food essentials like clean water, nappies, sanitary pads, football jerseys, and sports equipment.

Ordega also pledged her support for young girls at the camp aspiring to pursue careers in football or other ventures, delivering an empowering message: “You shall rule the world.”

The head of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), James Iorpuu, commended Ordega’s humility and her role as a national ambassador, stating,

“You are representing not only Benue but the whole country; thank you for bringing honour to us.”

Peter Uche, a member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Katsina/Ala West, urged Ordega to continue amplifying the plight of displaced communities on her global platform.
